The beauty of Tokyo

Not exactly the kind of thing one expects to read about - Tokyo is far from the world's most beautiful city.

The sepia photos here are the result of a pretty heavy snowfall in January 1998, which made me get up early, wrap up warm, and take a camera outside. Once outside, the weather was so beautful that I bought another disposable camera pre-loaded with sepia film, which would provide a "period" instant nostalgia look for the record. Here are a few of these pictures, which I transferred to PhotoCD and converted to JPEG.

I have invested in a digital camera, and it's small enough to be carried around wherever I go. Although the pictures are not quite up to a 35mm SLR, it's a lot easier to get them onto the Web, keep coming back to this site, and you'll see it develop as time and space allows.

Click on any of these for a larger version. I am not particularly proud of my skill as a photographer, but I thought it was a good idea to let people know that Tokyo is not simply an enormous gray metropolis (though it does seem like that a lot of the time).

Of course, in Tokyo, the people are as interesting as the scenery. Click on the girl at left to go to the home of loose socks, short skirts, and loose comments on Japan and the Japanese.

j-views also has many other views of Japan. Have a look using the links at the top and borrow of this page.
